How We Work

We’re here to educate and equip you to better understand your body and how it communicates with you. Our mission is to support your body’s innate ability to heal, so you can live a nourished, energized, and joy-filled life.

What to Expect When You Work With Us:

1. Discovery Call
We’ll begin with a discovery call to get to know each other and ensure we’re a good fit. This is a relaxed, pressure-free time to connect and ask questions. You can schedule your call below! Should you choose to move forward, we’ll provide a few brief forms to gather information about your medical history, current symptoms, and any treatments or approaches you’ve already explored.

2. Foundational Lab Testing
Next, we’ll run some foundational labs—you get to choose which ones—that offer deep insight into what may be driving your symptoms. While we wait for your results, we’ll provide gentle, actionable nutrition and lifestyle steps to get you started.
Already have recent blood work or other labs? Great! We’ll review them through a functional lens to gain even more clarity.

3. Personalized Root-Cause Analysis
Once your lab results are in, we dive deep. Behind the scenes, we connect the dots between your lab data, health history, diet, lifestyle, and symptoms. Everything in your body is connected—so our approach is, too.
We’ll create a personalized wellness protocol tailored to your unique biology, lifestyle, and capacity.

4. Results & Recommendations Session
During a one-on-one virtual session, we’ll walk you through your lab results, explain what they mean, and present your personalized plan. This will include targeted nutrition, lifestyle shifts, and supplementation to support your body’s healing.

5. Ongoing Support & Check-Ins
You’ll never be on this journey alone. As you begin implementing your protocol, we’ll meet every other week or once a month (your choice) for supportive follow-ups. These sessions are a space to ask questions, adjust your plan, learn more, and stay encouraged.

Timeline & Continued Care:

This typically spans about three months. At the end, we’ll reassess your progress and discuss next steps—whether that’s continued support, additional lab testing, or re-testing key markers to track improvement. The direction we take will always be guided by your individual needs, preferences, and goals.

By the end of your journey, you’ll have:

  • Clear answers about what’s happening in your body

  • Practical tools and knowledge to support your health

  • Greater energy, balance, and well-being

We’re honored to walk alongside women like you as you take meaningful steps toward improved health—and we’re here to support you every step of the way on your healing journey.

Labs we Offer

Here at Rooted Functional Wellness we don’t just guess when it comes to your health— we test.

Functional labs are a key part of how we uncover what’s really going on beneath the surface. They help us identify hidden imbalances that standard tests often miss — in areas like hormones, digestion, detox, immune function, and more.

Here’s why we use them:

  • Root Cause Approach – Symptoms are signals. Labs help us find the underlying stressors creating them.

  • Personalized Protocols – Your body is unique. Lab data allows us to tailor your healing plan specifically to you.

  • Track Progress – We use lab insights to monitor what’s working and make adjustments as needed.

  • Empowerment Through Data – Clients feel more confident and validated when they can see what’s happening in their bodies.

Functional lab testing gives us the tools to support healing at the root — not just manage symptoms.

Functional Labs We Commonly Recommend

We choose lab tests based on your unique health history, goals, and symptoms. Here are some of the most commonly recommended labs in our practice:

  • HTMA (Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis)
Provides key insights into your mineral levels and heavy metal exposure. This test helps us assess your metabolic type, stress response, adrenal function, and overall mineral balance — all crucial for energy, mood, and resilience.

  • Full Thyroid Panel
Goes beyond standard TSH testing to include markers like Free T3, Free T4, Reverse T3, and thyroid antibodies. This full picture helps us identify signs of hypothyroidism, Hashimoto’s, stress, and hormone conversion issues that may be missed with basic panels.

  • G.I. MAP (Gut Microbiome Test)
A comprehensive stool test that reveals gut infections, parasites, H. Pylori, imbalances in good vs. bad bacteria, leaky gut, inflammation, and in-depth digestion markers. Since gut health is the foundation of overall health, this test often uncovers key healing opportunities.

  • Comprehensive Blood Work (including Full Iron Panel)
Gives us a broad look at your overall health, including inflammation, liver and kidney function, blood sugar balance, and nutrient status. The iron panel helps us assess anemia, iron overload, and how well your body is transporting and storing iron.

  • DUTCH (Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones)

Provides a detailed look at sex hormones, adrenal function, and hormone metabolism—offering insights that standard blood tests often miss. Helps uncover the root causes of symptoms like fatigue, mood swings, irregular cycles, PMS, and sleep disturbances, allowing us to create truly personalized and effective care plans.

These labs help us identify the “hidden stressors” contributing to your symptoms — and create a personalized plan to restore balance, function, and vitality.

1. What is a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P)?

An FDN-P is a trained health professional who uses functional lab testing and holistic protocols to help identify and support healing opportunities in the body. We don’t diagnose or treat disease — instead, we work to uncover the root causes of dysfunction and support the body’s natural ability to heal.

2. How is this different from going to a doctor?

Most conventional doctors focus on diagnosing and managing symptoms with medication. Though this has its place, often times people leave their appointments feeling discouraged with unanswered questions and unsure how to truly heal. As a FDN-P, I look at your health through a different lens — searching for why those symptoms are happening in the first place. We use lab tests and nutrition and lifestyle changes to create a personalized healing protocol aimed at restoring balance and long-term wellness.

3. What kind of lab tests do you use?

We use functional labs that assess key areas like hormone balance, gut health, detoxification, mineral status, and immune function. Some of the most common tests include the GI-MAP, Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA), Full Thyroid Panel, and comprehensive blood work.

4. Do you offer virtual services?

Yes! All sessions are conducted virtually, making it easy and convenient to get support from anywhere. Many of the lab kits are shipped directly to your home, and results are reviewed together via secure video sessions.

5. Will insurance cover the cost?

Most functional labs and services are not covered by traditional insurance plans. However, we aim to keep our services affordable and offer various package options to fit different budgets. We are also working on making HSA/FSA options available as well as payment plans.

6. How long does it take to see results?

Everyone is different, but most clients start noticing changes within the first few weeks. Deeper healing can take several months, depending on the level of dysfunction and how consistently the protocol is followed. We’re here to guide and support you every step of the way.

7. Do you work with people who have diagnosed conditions?

Yes — we work with many clients who have diagnoses like Hashimoto’s, IBS, PCOS, and more. While we don’t treat or diagnose disease, we support the body’s natural healing mechanisms by addressing underlying stressors and imbalances.

8. How do I get started?

Simply schedule a discovery call to see if we’re a good fit. From there, we’ll recommend the best path forward based on your goals and health history.
